Lewis & Clark is proud to deliver a true Jackson Hole outdoor experience. Since 1971, we have offered premier Snake River Canyon whitewater trips, guiding everyone from multi-generational families with six-year-olds to seasoned thrill-seekers. As one of the original outfitters in the valley, our legacy is built on safety, fun, and a deep respect for the river.

Our expert outdoor guides specialize in making first-time rafters feel completely at ease. They are passionate professionals who know every wave and eddy, ensuring your group has an unforgettable and secure adventure from the moment you launch at West Table to the takeout at Sheep Gulch.

The Snake River Canyon is famous for its perfect pacing. Instead of continuous, exhausting whitewater, you will experience thrilling rapids perfectly interspersed with calm, scenic recovery pools. This natural rhythm gives you time to catch your breath, spot bald eagles along the towering canyon walls, and even jump in for a refreshing float during the famous "Mellow Mile."

Over eight miles, you will conquer a legendary series of Class II and III whitewater, meaning you will not miss a single wave in the canyon. You will warm up on the fun Class II rollers of Station Creek and Blind Canyon before hitting the massive Class III waves of Double Draw, Haircut Rock, Champagne, Ropes, and Cottonwood. Right in the middle of the canyon, you will square off against the biggest hits of the day: the world-famous Lunch Counter and Big Kahuna.

Classic Whitewater Raft

Our 17-foot self-bailing Classic Raft is the gold standard for Snake River whitewater and the perfect introduction to rafting. Built to confidently handle the river’s big waves all season long, this larger boat provides a highly stable, thrilling ride that remains completely accessible for families and beginners, with a typical minimum age of 6 (depending on conditions).

While other outfitters pack up to 16 people into a boat, Lewis & Clark limits our Classic Rafts to a maximum of 12 guests. This gives your group more room to relax, a much more comfortable ride, and allows our guides to provide the individualized instruction and support that families and first-timers really appreciate.

A high-energy action shot of an orange Lewis & Clark whitewater raft plunging through a massive, erupting wave on the Snake River. The front of the raft is angled sharply upward as it crests a rapid, sending a huge wall of white spray over the crew. Six rafters in yellow and blue splash jackets are seen digging their paddles into the water with intense focus, while the guide at the back maintains control amidst the churning whitewater.

Small Boat Whitewater Raft

If you are looking to turn your Snake River experience up a notch, Lewis & Clark is your best choice. Tackling the exact same legendary stretch of river as our Classic trips, no other outfitter offers a raft more exciting than our 13-foot self-bailers.

While other companies advertise ‘8-man rafts’ that rely on bulky oar frames, we run the last true paddle rafts in the valley. With only 4 to 7 paddling positions, you sit closer to the water for a splashier, more thrilling ride with unparalleled, personalized attention from your guide. You will feel the true impact of the rapids and get more thrills per mile than any other boat on the Snake.

Because this ride is so action-packed, the minimum age is 8 to 10 depending on conditions, and these boats are not available during high water season. If you book a small boat during extreme high water, your safety comes first. We will move your group to a larger Classic Raft and refund you the difference.

The crew is paddling with maximum effort, their faces a mix of intense focus and exhilaration as they crash through the waves. The guide, positioned at the rear in a blue performance shirt, works the oars to maintain the boat's line through the center of the rapid.
